Why should you adopt? Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a cat or kitten versus getting cats for sale or kittens for sale from a cat breeder? When someone is breeding kittens, they are creating new cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of cat or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a cat for sale from a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a cat or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Our Adoption Process: Prospective adopters fill in an application form at the adoption event. We do landlord and veterinary reference checks before proceeding to the next stage, which involves a home visit where the cat or kitten will be living. The cat or kitten is spayed or neutered before placement; cost is included in the adoption fee (currently $130). The contract requires that the cat or kitten be indoors-only and that it cannot be declawed. In addition, we do not place single kittens unless the household has another cat or kitten who needs a friend; otherwise it has to be two kittens together.

Cat Health Warning: Lilies and Cats = A Fatal Combination Almost all members of the lily family contain toxins that can be deadly to cats. Just a curious nibble, a lick of pollen, or even a sip from a vase can be enough to cause irreparable kidney damage and even death. Signs of lily toxicity include vomiting, lethargy and appetite loss. Keep your beloved feline companions away from lilies! This notice is posted in honor of our miraculous White Nose, who survived a lily encounter, and in memory of beautiful Bella, and countless other kitty angels who did not. About FFGW Cats in our program reside at private homes of foster care givers and remain within our organization until a permanent home is found. We do not euthanize healthy cats. Formed in 1995, the mission of the Feline Foundation of Greater Washington is to provide necessary veterinary and loving foster care for every animal in our program, to find them permanent, adoptive homes where they will be treated with love and respect for the rest of their lives, to provide foster care for life if no adoptive home can be found, and to educate the public regarding responsible cat care. We are a 501(c) organization (EIN 54-1749459). Google+
