Denamarin For Cats

FAQs Denamarin Frequently Asked Questions What formulations of Denamarin are available? Denamarin is available in two formulations for your convenience: the original enteric-coated tablets for cats and dogs and scored chewable tablets for dogs for easy administration. How much Denamarin should I give my pet? Your veterinarian will advise you as to the amount to initially administer. Depending on your pet’s response and status, your veterinarian may eventually adjust this amount to meet your pet’s individual needs. Remember, Denamarin enteric-coated tablets should generally not be broken. When increasing or decreasing their administration, adjustments should be done in full tablet increments. Some pets are given Denamarin only for a short period of time, while Denamarin may be used for longer periods of time in other animals. How will I know if Denamarin is helping my pet? Your veterinarian will likely recommend follow-up examinations, blood work, and/or other laboratory work to check on how well your pet is doing with Denamarin and how it may be helping to support your pet’s liver function. At home, watch for a response in attitude, appetite, and activity level. Are there any side effects? The active ingredients in Denamarin have been shown to be well-tolerated by both dogs and cats with a wide margin of safety. Can Denamarin be used with other products? Yes, your veterinarian may recommend combining Denamarin with other products, like Marin® Plus in dogs, and/or dietary modifications. Combining Marin Plus with Denamarin in dogs provides added levels of silybin along with vitamin E, zinc, curcumin, and MCT oil for those patients that may benefit from additional liver support. There are no known interactions of Denamarin with drugs or other supplements. Are other brands the equivalent to Denamarin? While other S-Adenosylmethionine and silybin products are available, there can be a significant variance in product quality and tablet strengths. Denamarin’s active ingredients individually have been shown to be safe and effective for both dogs and cats in published research studies. Denamarin contains a specific silybin shown to provide better bioavailability in dogs compared to the standardized milk thistle extract available in many other products.

Description When liver function is compromised, the exact cause can often be difficult to determine. Supporting the liver, regardless of the cause, is essential to keep it working properly. Administering SAMe (S-Adenosylmethionine), which is found in Denamarin, has been shown to markedly increase liver levels of glutathione, an important compound for liver health formed when SAMe is metabolized. The SAMe in Denamarin has also been shown to help protect liver cells from cell death and may help cell repair and regeneration. Denamarin also helps support your pet’s liver through the administration of silybin. Silybin is an active part of an extract from milk thistle, known as silymarin, and has been shown to support liver function by helping maintain a healthy oxidative balance.  While best known for supporting the liver in dogs and cats, Denamarin also has a place in supporting brain health. Denamarin provides SAMe in a stabilized form to help with brain health and act as a neuroprotector. Denamarin also provides a bioavailable form of silybin which supports oxidative balance. For optimal absorption, tablets should be given on an empty stomach, at least one hour before feeding, as the presence of food decreases the absorption of S-Adenosylmethionine. For those owners who have difficulty administering tablets to their pets, Denamarin tablet(s) may be disguised in a small bite of food. If the pet is to receive more than one tablet daily, the total number of tablets may be divided between morning and evening for ease of administration. For example, a daily administration of three tablets could be divided into two tablets in the morning and one tablet in the evening. Denamarin can be used in conjunction with Marin® Plus to provide additional silybin levels and the benefits of vitamin E, zinc, curcumin, and MCT oil supplementation. If Marin Plus is used in conjunction with Denamarin, the two products should be administered 12 hours apart for best response. The dog tablets were so huge that I would have had to chop them up into 4 pieces to “pill” her and there was no way she’d let me do that 4 times. So I was delighted to find these tablets on Chewy.com. So far she has taken one every day (in a pill pocket). Won’t know if they’re helping for another couple of months when we do more blood tests, but am very happy these are available. 0 You liked it! Something went wrong. Please try again later. Report Good to try By Nutramax on May 3, 2017 I originally got this product from my vet they have closed their doors since then anew vet never gave me this product I found it online and because of this product using for the last 3 months plus the combination of milk thistle antibiotics my cat’s liver enzymes have come down more than half from the last check which was over a month ago so this product seems to be working very well for him and I’m going to continue using this according to the doctor’s recommendations 3 You liked it! Because he has taken medicines his whole life, his liver functions are beginning to climb and Denamarin will hopefully start to help his liver heal. He is just starting on this enzyme supplement so we are hoping that these pills will work. Thank you for the fast shipping as well. 1 You liked it! Something went wrong. Please try again later. Report Affordable Veterinarian Quality Supplement By Dayton666 on May 10, 2017 I was given this for my cat when her liver enzymes were elevated, and when the 8 day supply I was given ran out, I found this exact medication on Chewy. 30 tablets, extremely affordable! I am super impressed by this site, and the shipping is ridiculously fast. I am a loyal Chewy.com customer from here on out. Amazing! 0 You liked it! Something went wrong. Please try again later. Report Liver support By HobbitMom on Mar 23, 2017 As an RVT who works emergency/critical care, and no longer working for a general practice vet (but remains a client at that practice), discovering that Chewy carries this prescription product saves me from a 30 minute one-way trip. I have a small senior dog who requires this prescription drug to help support his liver, so not being on it isn’t an option. With my current work schedule, it’s convenient to have this product shipped to my door, instead of having to travel 30 minutes out of my way to an area of the city I rarely go to. 2 You liked it! My Chihuahua has elevated liver enzymes and she has only been on Denamarin for a month. Will keep her on it for another two months and then do blood work to see if it helps to lower her numbers. I wish the product was in liquid form as she doesn’t like taking the pill. I use half of a Greenies Pill Pockets and that seems to work the best. 0 You liked it! Something went wrong. Report Vet recommended By Thankfulsmom on Mar 22, 2017 I purchased this on the recommendation of my cat’s neurologist who is concerned about the effects of her other meds on her liver and kidneys. The pill is small and easy to give. It is too soon to say if it is helping her liver and kidney levels–I will have bloodwork done in another month. However, the fact that my vet, who is extremely knowledgeable, asked me to try this product made an impression on me. 1 You liked it! Something went wrong. Please try again later. Report Saved My Dog’s Life! By sdakota on Mar 6, 2017 I’ve lost 2 dogs from liver disease. They never showed any symptoms until a few days before they had to be put down. So when a third dog was diagnosed, I was absolutely distraught. But the vet recommended a hepatic diet along with Denamarin, which previous vets had not. Slowly but surely my little poodle’s numbers crept down until they reached normal, where they remain today. She is a rescue, all of whose teeth had to be removed, so I give the Denamarin in a small blob of pumpkin puree. She loves it. 4 You liked it! Something went wrong. Please try again later. Report Chichuahua stomach issues By Fast on Apr 18, 2017 Too soon to tell how well they work. But as usual chewy delivered very quickly! Pill is tinyy and blue smaller then a tic taco my little chihuahua has no issue swallowing – doesn’t even chew. Easy to give! 1 You liked it! Something went wrong. Please try again later. Report Denamarin By Foxy on Mar 15, 2017 I took my dog to the vet and he gave her this within days she was so much better. She’s 14 so I asked my vet if I could keep giving Demanarin and he said yes, of course he charged 3x the price I found on Chewys. Definitely recommend this product. 2 You liked it!
