Hostel Cat Las Vegas

HOSTEL CAT Sandwiched between a tattoo parlour and a strip joint and across the road from a wedding chapel. You might wonder what to expect at this hostel. Is it all Vegas craziness? No, it’s not. Inside it is generally calm and secure. No noise ever emanated over from the stripper’s and there were no untoward goings on that we saw. (Sorry if that disappoints!) Location This hostel is easy to find, located on Las Vegas Boulevard. It is all on ground level and painted pale blue and yellow with a picture outside it of a cartoon cat! It is around 20 minutes walk from the Fremont area and about 10 minutes walk from the Stratosphere. The main strip is a bit further away again but you can easily catch the Deuce bus which runs 24 hours. There is clear signage outside which is illuminated at night. There is a also a Walgreen’s store on the corner of the street. Rooms and Bedrooms The rooms are arranged around a large courtyard but you need to type in a door code to enter this area. This keeps all the crazies out (unless they have booked a room!) You have a little gold-coloured key to open your own door with. (The bond for this is $10.) There are a range of room types and rooms are cleaned daily. The 6 person dorm is quite small but never really cramped and there is just enough space for everyone’s things. The bed is comfortable. There are large lockers but no other furniture in the room. There is a heater in the room and a clean, ensuite bathroom. The bathroom is a decent size so you have room to get changed but the walls are pretty thin. There is soft toilet paper and the shower is nice (although we may have spotted a little mould on the ceiling). There is another toilet available opposite the reception. Common Spaces The kitchen is fairly small but has everything that you need including 2 microwaves. From 8.30 am, free pancakes are yours for the making. The mix is done for you and then you can make as many as you like. There are tables and chairs in an adjacent social area. There is a public computer here but as there is a charge, it is rarely used. Wifi is free. There are a choice of large fridges but don’t look for them in the kitchen as they are all in the lounge! This living room is not vast but seems to accommodate a good number of people. Netflix is available on the television and people will sit around and watch a movie together in the evenings. There are opportunities to go on a hostel trip in the evenings, to a club, pub or pool party. Some nights these are popular and sometimes there are no takers. The main social area indoors is open from 8 am to 1 am only. Our stay was when the weather was cooler. On hot days, there would be more outdoors socialising which is likely to affect the surrounding bedrooms. Summary This hostel is good value if you don’t mind being located away from the main strip. There are nights out for those who are interested or the quiet TV room for those who aren’t. There is a chance you may see some odd characters in the area but this is true of anywhere in Vegas and is not a problem at this hostel. This hostel is a good choice if you would rather gamble with your money than spend it on accommodation. It is as sociable as you choose to make it. We were pleasantly surprised. Charli 2014-10-25

눉It was on Las Vegas Blvd where some riff raff can be seen, but the Cat is like a beacon light in the midst.눇OMG, when I first saw the word “Hostel,” I thought of the movie “Taken” but quickly dismissed the thought when I met the check-in clerk and fellow travelers. She read the rules and It was love at first night. I stayed in an all female room and we enjoyed each other's company and respected each other's space. One lady was traveling around the U.S. from Australia, on her way to Canada. Another lady was from New York on her way to l.a. We shared some of our travel adventures. I was pleasantly surprised to see that we all had kitchen privileges, a TV room, an open court to socialize, and there was even a birthday party and everyone was invited. The rooms were clean, no pests and very comfortable. When i checked out, i was welcome to leave my luggage for a few hours. I will return soon. Love love love Hostel Cat. Xoxoxoxo, from Ms Muhammad
